Inception of the Tibetan Treatment
-by Mohammad Shaikh Farid
Suddhadhan, the father of Siddhartha Gautam, was the King of Kapilavastu. His son Goutam Buddha was the founder of Buddhism. Goutam Buddha’s another name was Siddhartha. Then prince Siddhartha has just arrived in the age of adolescence. But, he was not nimble, romping like other adolescent boys; he was always used to think something by himself. Always he was absent minded. For this reason there was no tranquility of mind of the emperor and empress. They were not getting any solution by thinking. In such a time prince Siddhartha saw the following 4(four) scenes by the roadside on the way of his daily walk:
Scene -1:          A new born baby has just taken birth from the womb of a mother. The face of the afflicted mother has been illuminated with happiness and satisfaction.
Scene -2:          An ill young man suffering beside the road with ill and lean body.
Scene -3:          A bowed, humpbacked old man trying in vain to proceed on with support of his stick. It takes about 3(three) hours to move his each step.
Scene -4:          A man lying beside the road. It looks from far that he is sleeping. But, his face was surrounded by flies. Actually he is not alive. The man is dead.
The above 4(four) scenes had changed the main stream of the life of prince Siddhartha. These four scenes had produced a new maxim – “Karunadhara”. This maxim or philosophy of Goutam Buddha brought change in the politics and sociology time to time in various arenas. Today it has become history. But these four scenes brought revolution in another arena. That was in medical sector. Buddha, who was wholeheartedly submitted to alleviate sufferings of mankind, had introduced a new stream of treatment method. People was getting comfort, their physical sufferings had been removing from his treatment. This treatment is known as Tibetan treatment today.
Now, we may come to the point that what is the Tibetan treatment. Tibetan physicians say that mind is the main container of all the diseases by which the body becomes affected. The motto of the Buddhism is, to keep away the own mind from this materialistic world. Three poisons — anger, relation and ignorance destroy the balance of human mindset. As a result that affects the body. Then a human being becomes sick. As per theory of Buddhist treatment a proper mental power will have to be constructed in order to remove these poisons of mind or to cure the disease. Like other 2(two) natural treatment methods – Ayurved and Unani, ‘contrast’ is the main principle in the Tibetan treatment also. As for instance when body becomes heat (Sun burnt) cooling medicine (moonlight) is its only treatment.
Before starting any treatment first task is proper diagnosis. Physicians used to test pulse of patients in 13 methods in order to diagnose in Tibetan treatment. At first the physician used to see the patient thoroughly and then feel. If necessary urine of the patient is used to be tested. After that tongue and eyes of the patient are also examined. In case of complicated diseases the Tibetan physicians used to examine the patient’s pulse at the time of sunset. According to their doctrine this is the time when the pulse beat runs in proper speed. As a result the correct disease can be ascertained accurately.
